Johnnie Humbird, born Frederick Ralph Hillegas on May 21, 1935, in Lawrence, Kansas, was a notable American singer and songwriter. His Social Security Number indicates a Maryland origin, suggesting his family moved from the Midwest around late 1936, as evidenced by the 1940 census, which lists them in Cumberland, Maryland. He graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland in 1954. In 1956, he married his first wife, Laura Susan Murrell, in North Carolina. He recorded eight singles with Columbia Records between 1959 and 1960, with notable tracks including "Swamp Bird" and "Your Porch Light Is Burning." He remarried in 1969 to Martha Arundell Ingham in the same North Carolina county. Later, he relocated to the Norfolk, Virginia area, where he worked at the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard and retired in 1994. In 1983, he married his third wife, Beverly, whose maiden name is unknown. The couple moved to Sevierville, Tennessee, around 1996 and then to Naples, Florida, circa 2001. Johnnie Humbird passed away at the age of 68 on November 24, 2004.
