Johnny Colón is a Latin band leader, singer, percussionist, pianist, composer, arranger, and trombone player, born on April 21, 1942, in El Barrio, a section of New York City. He is of Puerto Rican heritage and is recognized as one of the major instigators of the 1960s Boogaloo sound. In addition to his musical contributions, he founded the East Harlem Music School.
