Johnny Colon is a Latin band leader, singer, percussionist, pianist, composer, arranger, and trombone player. Born on April 21, 1942, in El Barrio, a section of New York City, he comes from parents of Puerto Rican heritage. Colon was one of the major instigators of the 1960s Boogaloo sound and is the founder of the East Harlem Music School.
