Johnny Mandel was an American jazz, film music, and popular music composer and arranger, born on November 23, 1925, in New York City, NY, USA. He passed away on June 29, 2020, at the age of 94 in Ojai, CA, USA. As a songwriter, Mandel achieved chart success ten times between 1965 and 1992 in both the U.S. and the U.K. His most notable song, "Theme from M*A*S*H (Suicide Is Painless)," composed for the 1970 movie, charted four times during that period, reaching #1 in the U.K. in 1980. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was inducted into the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame in 2009 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010.
