Johnny Otis was an influential American musician, bandleader, and producer, known primarily for his work in rhythm and blues. Born on December 28, 1921, in Vallejo, California, he was of Greek descent and grew up in a diverse musical environment. Otis played multiple instruments, including the piano and drums, and was a prolific songwriter and arranger. He is often credited with helping to bridge the gap between R&B and rock and roll. Throughout his career, he worked with many notable artists and was instrumental in the careers of several musicians.
