Johnny Otis was an American musician, bandleader, and talent scout, known for his influential role in the development of rhythm and blues music. Born on December 28, 1921, in Vallejo, California, he was of Greek and African American descent. Otis is often referred to as the "Godfather of Rhythm and Blues" and was instrumental in the careers of many artists, including Etta James and Big Mama Thornton. He was also known for his work as a songwriter and producer. Johnny Otis passed away on January 17, 2012.
