Johnny Sayles was an R&B singer born on February 9, 1937, in Winnsboro, Texas. He passed away from a heart attack on August 17, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 18, Johnny relocated to St. Louis, where he worked with Eugene Neal’s Rocking Kings and performed with Ike Turner in the Kings Of Rhythm in 1958. From 1959 to 1961, he led his own band, The Johnny Sayles Band, which performed at Chuck Berry’s Paradise Club. After taking a break from music in 1962 to study in Houston, he joined the Five Dutones the following year, performing on their Review tour. Throughout his career, Johnny recorded for several labels, including Mar-V-Lus, St Lawrence, Dakar, Chi-Town, Chess, and Minit Records.
