John's Children were a pop art/mod rock band from Leatherhead, England, active in the 1960s for less than two years. Known for their outrageous live performances, they briefly featured a future frontman and were famously booted off a tour in Germany in 1967 for upstaging the headliners. Their 1967 single "Desdemona," written by Marc Bolan, was banned by the BBC due to its controversial lyric, "Lift up your skirt and fly." The band's US record label delayed the release of their album, Orgasm, for four years after its recording because of objections from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Although they released only six singles and one album and were not very commercially successful, John's Children had a significant influence on punk rock and are considered precursors of glam rock. In retrospect, they have been praised for their impact, and their singles have become some of the most sought-after British rock collectibles from the 1960s.
