Jon Gibson was an American composer and multi-wind instrumentalist, skilled in saxophones, flutes, and clarinets. Born on March 11, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, he passed away on October 12, 2020, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Over the course of three and a half decades, Gibson participated in numerous landmark musical events, performing in the early works of notable composers such as Steve Reich, Terry Riley, LaMonte Young, and Philip Glass. He continued to collaborate with Glass in various configurations, as well as with a diverse array of musicians, choreographers, and artists, including Merce Cunningham, Nancy Topf, Lucinda Childs, JoAnne Akalaitis, Simone Forti, Thomas Buckner, Harold Budd, David Behrman, Elizabetta Vittoni, Moacir Santos, Arthur Russell, and Julius Eastman.
