Jon Mueller is a drummer and percussionist known for shifting the focus of rhythm from a traditional backbeat to a more intuitive and natural central musical element. His performances have been described as both cathartic and meditative, captivating audiences across the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Notable solo appearances include venues such as the Guggenheim Museum, New Museum, Issue Project Room, and Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, as well as festivals like SXSW, Big Ears Festival, and Hopscotch Fest. From 2013 to 2015, Mueller created and directed the multi-disciplinary project Death Blues, which produced four critically acclaimed recordings, with Rolling Stone recognizing one as one of the '20 Best Avant Albums of 2014.' His collaboration with multi-instrumentalist William Ryan Fritch, titled Ensemble, was featured on NPR’s ‘First Listen.’ In addition to his solo work, Mueller has performed and recorded with various groups, including Who is the Witness?, Mind Over Mirrors, Volcano Choir, Collections of Colonies of Bees, and Pele. He has collaborated with numerous artists, such as Aaron Turner, Faith Coloccia, and Jarboe, among others. His solo recordings have been released by several labels, including Table of the Elements, Type Recordings, and Important Records. Jon Mueller is also known for playing Dream Cymbals.
