Joni Haastrup is a Nigerian vocalist and bandleader, known for his significant contributions to the West African music scene. The son of a Yoruban king, he began his musical journey performing with his brother's band, Sneakers, and quickly gained recognition as a vocalist for the 1966 "Super Afro Soul" album. By the 1970s, he earned the title of “Soul Brother Number One.” In 1971, he was selected to tour Europe as part of the Air Force band and participated in further shows as part of the SALT project. Upon returning to Nigeria, he formed the group MonoMono. In 1978, he recorded his solo album in London.
