Jorge Ben Jor, born Jorge Ben on March 22, 1939, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a Brazilian musician, vocalist, and songwriter. He gained international recognition in the early 1960s as a samba artist, particularly after Sérgio Mendes covered his song "Mas Que Nada." His early works featured samba music and Bossa Nova influences, which were prominent in the 60s. In 1976, he released the album Africa Brasil, where he created a new style called Samba-Rock, marking a shift from acoustic to electric guitar. As of 2023, Jorge Ben Jor continues to perform in Brazil, with occasional appearances in other countries.
