Jorge Ben Jr., born Jorge Ben on March 22, 1939, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a Brazilian musician, vocalist, and songwriter. He began his career in the early 1960s as a samba artist and gained international recognition when Sérgio Mendes covered his song "Mas Que Nada." His early works featured samba music and Bossa Nova influences, which were predominant in the 1960s. With the release of his 1976 album Africa Brasil, Jorge Ben created a new style known as Samba-Rock, transitioning from acoustic to electric guitar. As of 2023, he continues to perform primarily in Brazil, with rare appearances in other countries.
