Jose Pianeta Pitalua (March 19, 1900 - 1974) was a Colombian musician, trombonist, and orchestra director born in Ciénaga de Oro. He made his debut in jazz with the Lorduy orchestra in Cartagena, which originally started as a string trio in 1911 for the centenary of Cartagena's independence. This group evolved into the Orquesta Lorduy in 1917 and later became the Jazz Band Lorduy in 1923, directed by Francisco Lorduy Benito-Revollo, known as "Pacho" Lorduy. Pitalua later formed the popular music orchestra Buenos Aires to perform at a nightclub called "El Bar Pullman." In 1933, he decided to strengthen the orchestra and changed its name.
