Joseph Koo MBE, GBS (25 February 1932 - 3 January 2023) was a renowned composer from Hong Kong. He joined TVB as the director of music in 1973 and collaborated with a lyricist on many memorable TV theme songs from the late 1970s until his immigration to Canada in the 1990s. Over his career, Koo composed more than 1,200 songs, many of which are now considered classic Cantopop. Koo was honored with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1982 and received the Bronze Bauhinia Star from the Hong Kong Government in 1998. He also earned various accolades, including the Music Accomplishment Award from the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Ltd., the Highest Honour Award from RTHK Ten Best Chinese Music Program, and multiple awards for Best Music and Best Lyric from the Asia Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Awards, and Taiwan's Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards, among others.
