Josephine Premice was an American actress and singer, born on July 21, 1926, in New York City. She moved to Haiti with her family at a young age. Premice rose to fame after being invited by Katherine Dunham to perform in the Broadway show "Blue Holiday." In September 1949, she embarked on a tour in Europe, where she achieved significant success, aided by her fluency in English and French. She became known as a prominent figure in Calypso music. Josephine Premice passed away on April 13, 2001, in New York City.
