Josey Wales, born Joseph Winston Sterling on October 8th, 1959, in St. Mary, Jamaica, is an influential Jamaican dancehall deejay. He is recognized as one of the best deejays of the 1980s, alongside his sound system partner. Wales began his career in the late 1970s, performing over the King Sturgav sound system, and gained further popularity in the early 1980s while performing over Volcano sound system. He recorded notable singles such as "Bobo Dread" and "Leggo Mi Hand" for Lawes' label, as well as hits for Power House label, including "Undercover Lover." His stage name, Wales, is inspired by the character from the 1976 Western movie The Outlaw Josey Wales, played by Clint Eastwood, earning him the nickname "The Outlaw."
