J.R. Bailey, born on June 17, 1937, was a talented singer and songwriter. He was a member of a musical group from 1956 to 1972 and achieved several R&B hits under his own name until 1975. Bailey is best known for his prolific songwriting, having published over 300 songs for mainstream soul artists and cult soul artists alike. He passed away on September 6, 1985, at the age of 48.
