Juan Pablo Torres (1946–2005) was a celebrated Cuban trombonist, composer, and arranger whose work helped define modern Latin jazz and Cuban popular music. Emerging from Havana’s vibrant scene, he recorded with the renowned ensemble Algo Nuevo and collaborated with luminaries such as Irakere, Omara Portuondo, and Paquito D’Rivera. Blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz, funk, and dance music, Torres crafted a bold, innovative sound that earned international recognition and numerous credits as a bandleader, producer, and session musician.
