Judge Dread was an English reggae and ska musician, born on May 2, 1945, in Kent, England. He gained notoriety for being the first white musician to achieve a reggae chart hit in Jamaica and was especially recognized for his humorous, sexually explicit lyrics. Dread holds a record in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most songs banned from BBC airplay. He lived in Snodland, Kent, where he famously changed a street sign to read "Dreadland." In his early career, he worked as a roadie for the Rolling Stones and was the only white musician ever intentionally invited to perform at the renowned Apollo Club in New York. Tragically, Judge Dread passed away on March 13, 1998, during a concert in Canterbury, England, due to a heart attack.
