Judy Clay was an American soul and gospel singer born on September 12, 1938, in St. Pauls, North Carolina. She began her career in the 1950s as a member of the gospel group The Drinkard Singers. Although she recorded several albums and singles starting in 1960, it wasn't until the late 1960s that she achieved commercial success. Notable hit singles from this period include duets with other artists, such as "Storybook Children" in 1967 and "Private Number" in 1968. From the early 1970s onward, Clay primarily focused on session work and gospel music. She passed away on July 19, 2001, in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
