Judy Mowatt, born Judith Veronica Mowatt on December 23, 1952, in Gordon Town, St Andrew, Jamaica, is a renowned Jamaican singer. She founded a group known as the Gaytones in 1967 and embarked on a solo career around 1969/70, during which she also recorded under various names, including Julien and Jean. Embracing Rasta spirituality, she joined the "Twelve Tribes of Israel," where she met notable figures such as Bob Marley and Freddie McGregor. In 1973, Mowatt became one of the backing vocalists for Bob Marley & The Wailers, alongside Rita Marley and Marcia Griffiths. The following year, she recorded her first LP and later established her own record labels.
