Judy Street, born in Indiana in 1949, is a singer known for her significant impact on the UK "Northern Soul" scene. Raised in a musical family—with her father as a concert pianist and her mother as a flautist—she later became Judy Street-Corner after marriage but recorded under her maiden name. Her talent was discovered by manager Conrad Bachman while she was singing in a bar in Phoenix, Arizona. One of her notable recordings, "What," became a huge hit and was featured as the B-side to "You Turn Me On." The session was arranged by songwriter HB Barnum, with backing vocals provided by Darlene Love and the Blossoms.
