Jukka Ruohomäki (August 20, 1947 – March 8, 2022) was a self-taught composer from Helsinki, Finland, who specialized in electroacoustic music. He began his career in 1970 at the Electronic Music Studio of Helsinki University’s Department of Musicology, which was established in 1961 and provided guidance and mentorship to emerging composers. During the 1970s, Ruohomäki created independent compositions as well as music for radio, ballet, and film. In the 1980s, he shifted his focus to computer graphics and experimental film work. After a 16-year hiatus, he resumed composing music in 1994. He worked in Helsinki and at the SACMUS. In Autumn 1997, Ruohomäki relocated to northern Finland to become a lecturer in electronic music at the Conservatory of Oulu. In addition to his composing and teaching, he was dedicated to fostering connections between Nordic composers, musicians, and other artists.
