Jules Massenet was a prolific French composer, born on May 12, 1842, in Montaud, near Saint-Étienne, France. He passed away on August 13, 1912, in Paris, France. Massenet studied composition and won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1863. Throughout his career, he focused on writing operas that expressed tender feelings and portrayed historical heroes, particularly heroines. He composed 27 operas, including notable works such as "Le Roi de Lahore" (1877), "Manon" (1884), "Le Cid" (1885), "Werther" (1892), and "Thaïs" (1894). In 1878, he was appointed professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory, where he taught several notable composers.
