Julian Cope is a British vocalist, bassist, songwriter, author, and poet, born on October 21, 1957, in Deri, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK. He grew up in Tamworth before moving to Liverpool and is currently living in Avebury. Cope co-founded his first band, The Crucial Three, in May 1977, along with two other members, but the band disbanded in June of the same year. In 1978, he founded a post-punk band that brought him fame, which disbanded in late 1982. Afterward, he returned to Tamworth to record his first solo album, released in 1984. In addition to his music career, Cope has written several books, including two about his own musical journey. In 1992, he founded a band, and in 1999, he established another band, both of which are still active.
