Julita Ross, born in Arecibo, moved to Santurce during her childhood, where she participated in musical shows at her school. She made personal appearances at various theaters and private events, and her professional debut occurred on radio in Puerto Rico in 1940. During World War II, she traveled extensively with Abdias Villalonga and his orchestra, entertaining members of the armed forces stationed in Puerto Rico. In 1945, Julita left Puerto Rico for a club engagement in New York, where she quickly gained success with offers to perform in theaters and on radio. That same year, she made her first phonograph record, becoming an overnight sensation.
