June Carter Cash was an American country singer-songwriter and autoharp player, born on June 23, 1929, in Maces Spring, Virginia. She passed away on May 15, 2003, in Nashville, Tennessee. June was the second child in her family and the sister of two siblings, with whom she performed as a member of a group starting at age 10. On March 1, 1968, she married country singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, with whom she had performed since 1964. Even after their marriage, she continued to be professionally known as June Carter. Her biggest hit, co-written with another artist, was Johnny Cash's 1963 version of "Ring Of Fire," although the song was originally recorded by June's sister.
