Junior Williams, born Larry Medlow Williams, Jr. in Lubbock, Texas, in August 1953, was an influential singer and guitarist based in Austin, Texas. He passed away on April 17, 1997. Growing up, he was active in the church, and Gospel music significantly influenced him. He began his musical career in the late 1960s and moved to Austin in 1973 to further pursue his passion for music. In Austin, he played in a band called Showdown before joining the Cobras, one of the city's most notable bands. The Cobras, known for their vibrant R&B sound, pre-dated the Fabulous Thunderbirds and included Stevie Ray Vaughan as a member when Paul Ray was the lead vocalist in the mid-1970s. After Paul Ray's departure, Stevie Vaughan also left to pursue a solo career. The Cobras later regrouped with Denny Freeman on guitar and Junior Medlow on vocals and rhythm guitar, where Junior remained from 1978 to 1984. During this time, Stevie Ray Vaughan frequently opened shows for the Cobras.
