Kalacakra is an unusual band from Duisburg/Hochfeld, formed by the duo Claus Rauschenbach and Heinz Martin. Rauschenbach contributes guitars, kongas, percussions, vocals, harmonica, and slentem, while Martin plays electric guitars, flute, piano, vibraphone, schalmi, cello, violin, and synthesizer. The band released only one album during its career. The name Kalacakra refers to a major Tantric deity in Vajrayâna Buddhism, meaning "wheel of time." Their sound can be described as "mantric" acid folk, heavily influenced by Eastern music, reminiscent of "raga" rock experiences, featuring flute, sitar, and percussions. The album presents a meditative musical background with charming and dreamy interludes, dominated by solid blues guitar sections and stoned, depressive vocals in German, alongside various freak-out psychedelic rock sequences. The atmosphere of Kalacakra's music is mysterious and sinister, infused with humorous accents, making it a unique acid trip from the early German underground, blending elements of prog, psych, and folk.
