Kandidate was a U.K. soul and funk group that formed in 1976, originating from two previous soul bands: Hot Wax and 70% Proof. They had previously released a mid-'70s single on a reggae label before participating in a TV talent show, which led to them being signed by a prominent figure in the music industry. The group released five singles, with their most successful track being "I Don't Wanna Lose You," which reached No. 11 and was featured in the soundtrack of the movie "Sunburn." After leaving their initial label, they released two more singles, but the band disbanded before they could release their debut album, "Positives," which ultimately remained unreleased. The core members included brothers on keyboards and vocals, and bass, along with drums and vocals, who was the brother of a guitarist from another band. They formed a production and writing trio, while another guitarist went on to work with a notable figure in the industry, adopting a pseudonym. Their lineup also featured percussionists who contributed to their sound.
