Karat is a rock band that originated in the former German Democratic Republic, starting their career in 1975. The band was founded by vocalist Herbert Dreilich, who remained a key member until his death in 2004. Following his passing, the group continued to perform with his son, Claudius Dreilich, taking over as the lead vocalist. The current lineup includes Bernd Römer on guitar and Martin Becker on keyboards. Throughout its history, Karat has seen several former members, including Ulrich "Ed" Swillms (keyboards), Michael Schwandt (drums & percussion), Christian Liebig (bass guitar), Hans-Joachim Neumann (vocalist from 1975-1977), Henning Protzmann (bass guitar), Thomas Kurzhals (keyboards), Thomas Natschinski (keyboards), Ulrich Pexa (guitar), and Konrad Burkert (drums).
