Karen J. Dalton (born July 19, 1937 - died March 19, 1993) was an American folk blues singer and banjo player of Cherokee heritage. Born as Jean Karen Cariker in Enid, Oklahoma, she was known for her versatile musical style, which included blues, folk, country, pop, and Motown. Dalton played a twelve-string Gibson guitar and a long neck banjo, becoming a prominent figure in the early 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene, where she collaborated with artists such as Fred Neil, the Holy Modal Rounders, and Bob Dylan. She passed away from an AIDS-related illness.
