Karen Young was an American singer born on March 23, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA, and she passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 1991. She is best known for her hit single "Hot Shot," which peaked at #67 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100 in 1978 and reached #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart for two weeks. Young was celebrated for her energetic vocal delivery and her talent for scat singing, as well as being a skilled pianist and songwriter. Growing up in a rowhouse in Northeast Philadelphia, Young's early career included recording jingles and providing background vocals for local production companies. "Hot Shot" was written, produced, and arranged by Andy Kahn and Kurt Borusiewicz, with Walter "Kandor" Kahn serving as the executive producer. Following the success of the single, an album titled "Hot Shot" was released by West End Records of NYC. The song was later featured in the 1990 film "Reversal of Fortune" and was sampled in Daft Punk's track "Indo Silver Club" from their album Homework. In 2007, remixes of "Hot Shot" were released, with one remix, "Hot Shot - The Karen Young Reheat," reaching #7 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
