Kashif was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, producer, artist, composer, author, director, and educator, born on December 26, 1956, in New York City, New York. He passed away on September 25, 2016, in Playa del Rey, Los Angeles, California, at the age of 59. Growing up in eight foster homes and never knowing his real parents, Kashif discovered music at a young age, learning to play a $3 song flute at the age of seven. At 15, he joined a group known for early funk/dance hits and later signed as a solo artist. During his solo career, he collaborated with others to further develop the Synclavier, the world's first sampler, which he used on tracks like "I Just Got To Have You (Lover Turn Me On)" and "The Mood," the latter earning a Grammy nomination. His second album, "Send Me Your Love," garnered two Grammy nominations, while his 1985 release "Condition of the Heart" also received a nomination. Kashif wrote and produced "Inside Love" and helped launch the career of another artist with tracks like "Hi How Ya Doin'" and "Nightime In Tribeca." He collaborated with Whitney Houston, co-writing "You Give Good Love" and working on her second album.
