Kathy Kirby was an English singer born on 20 October 1938 in Ilford, Essex, England. She gained prominence as one of the highest-paid female singers of her generation. Kirby is best known for her cover of Doris Day's "Secret Love" and for representing the United Kingdom in the 1965 Eurovision Song Contest, where she finished in second place. Her rendition of "Secret Love" reached #4 on the U.K. charts in 1963. Between 1963 and 1965, she charted four additional times in the U.K. and once in the U.S., with "Dance On" peaking at #11 and "Let Me Go, Lover" at #10 in 1964; "Dance On" also topped the single charts in Australia. In 1963, she was recognized as Top British Female Singer in the New Musical Express poll. Her physical appearance often drew comparisons to Marilyn Monroe. Kirby's popularity peaked in the 1960s, making her one of the best-known and most-recognized personalities in British show business. She passed away on 19 May 2011 in London, England.
