Kathleen "Kathy" McCord (February 18, 1952 – October 28, 2015) was an American singer and musician born under the sign of Aquarius to Bill and Ann McCord, both of whom were involved in show business. Bill was a radio and television announcer at NBC, while Ann sang backup on Perry Como's TV show and hit records like "Catch a Falling Star." Kathy attended Sacred Heart School and Woodlands High School in New York, where she developed interests in painting, poetry, and singing, winning talent shows before the age of ten. At 16, she was introduced to songwriter Chip Taylor by her brother, Billy Vera. Taylor wrote two songs for her, but they did not achieve commercial success. A year later, manager Murri Barber recognized her talent and brought her to producer Creed Taylor, who chose her as his first artist, leading to her debut album, Kathy McCord (CTI 1001), and the single "Take Away This Pain" (CTI 502). After facing business difficulties, she collaborated with singer Austin Grasmere on demos, but they did not lead to further success. Promoter Michael Lang helped her record sixteen tracks in Woodstock, New York, which were later released in the collection New Jersey to Woodstock.
