Keith Poppin is a Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae singer born in Westmoreland, Jamaica, in May 1949. At the age of 17, he moved to Kingston to pursue his musical talents. In the early 1960s, he joined a band, and in 1968, he formed his own band, performing at local clubs and festivals. After a series of singles with The Rocking Horse, his wide vocal range and dynamic studio presence earned him the nickname "Poppin." In the early 1970s, he collaborated with Lloyd Parks, and in 1973, he released his first solo single, "Same Thing For Breakfast," a roots classic that marked the beginning of a long and successful recording career, topping the charts in England and Jamaica and selling over 50,000 records. He moved to Fuquay, North Carolina, USA, in 1983.
