Kenny Gamble, born on August 11, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a pioneering American songwriter, producer, and humanitarian. He co-founded the R&B label Philadelphia International Records (PIR) in 1971, where he played a key role in creating the "Philly Sound." The label's roster included notable artists and its house band, Mother, Father, Sister, Brother. Gamble also established Mighty Three Publishing with Leon Huff and fellow PIR songwriters. In addition to his musical achievements, Gamble is renowned for his humanitarian efforts for various civic and charitable causes, including the notable project. He was involved in a payola scandal at PIR in 1975, for which he was fined. Gamble continues to write music and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 as a non-performer.
