Kevin Drumm is an avant-garde tabletop guitarist born in 1970 in South Holland, IL. He played in several rock bands before moving to Chicago in 1991 to work at the Board of Trade. In Chicago, he began experimenting with prepared guitar, using various objects such as magnets, binder clips, chains, a violin bow, and even toenail clippers to manipulate the instrument's sound. Drumm became part of the city's burgeoning improv community, forming friendships with notable musicians like Jim O'Rourke, with whom he played in Brise-Glace and contributed to Gastr del Sol's albums "Upgrade" and "Afterlife," as well as collaborating with Ken Vandermark. In late 1997, Drumm made his solo debut with a self-titled album released by Perdition Plastics. He has since produced exceptional duo records with Taku Sugimoto, Axel Dörner, Martin Tètreault, and Ralf Wehowsky. His diverse projects showcase his unique talents on both guitar and electronics, blending acoustic and electronic sound while occasionally approaching silence, yet always maintaining a musical essence. Drumm has recorded and performed with prominent artists such as Phill Niblock, Tony Conrad, MIMEO, Mats Gustafsson, John Butcher, Thomas Ankersmit, and many others.
