Key Losers was a band based in Portland, Oregon, led by songwriter, singer, and guitarist Katy Davidson, who was also the constant member of the group. Davidson previously fronted the band Dear Nora, which disbanded in 2008. Key Losers released their first official full-length album, California Lite, on May 24, 2011, through Phil Elverum's record label P.W. Elverum and Sun. Prior to this, they had a 9-song mini-album titled Adjust released in early 2010. The album California Lite was recorded with the Key Losers Black Crow Session Band, engineered by Elverum in Anacortes, Washington, using an analog tape machine and minimal overdubbing. The band's music is characterized by concept-driven lyrics and melody-driven compositions, blending elements of soft rock, smooth jazz, classic rock, pop, folk, art rock, and noise. They welcome comparisons to a diverse range of artists, including Santana, Sade, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Julee Cruise, Steely Dan, Steve Reich, and Spin Doctors.
