Kim Larsen was a renowned Danish singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor, born on October 23, 1945, in Copenhagen. He passed away on September 30, 2018, in Odense. Since the 1970s, he became one of Denmark's most popular artists, recognized as the unofficial leader of the music scene in the 70s and the best-selling solo artist of the 80s. Throughout his solo career, he sold approximately 3 million records, which is equivalent to one record for every two Danes. In 1969, Larsen founded the band Gasolin' with fellow musicians, and they later welcomed a drummer. By their third album in 1973, Gasolin' had become the most popular Danish rock band, known for its Hendrix-inspired guitar licks and socially romantic lyrics, largely crafted by Larsen. However, tensions between Larsen and his bandmate led to the disbandment of Gasolin' on August 21, 1978. During the Gasolin' era, Larsen also pursued several side projects. He released his first solo album in 1973, which was an instant success in Denmark and was later included in Kulturkanonen, a list of essential Danish cultural heritage. In 1977, he attempted an international breakthrough with an English-language album recorded in the US, but it did not achieve the desired success.
