King of Culture is a band that was founded in 1982 in New York City by Lee Warren and Bill Carey, both of whom were previously associated with Baltimore's music scene, along with Mark Dumais and Rachel Bowman. When the band recorded their 7" record, they saw the addition of Swedish art student Lena Karlström and Jesse Hultberg, who replaced Dumais and Bowman.
