**Bio: King Sunny Ade** Born on September 22, 1946, in Oshogbo, Ondo State, Nigeria, King Sunny Ade is a pioneering figure in the genre of Juju music. Raised in a family with a Methodist pastor for a father and a mother engaged in various trading enterprises, Ade has royal lineage through his maternal grandfather from Akoure. Although he completed primary school, he dropped out of secondary school to pursue a career in music. In 1962, he moved to Lagos and joined the band of singer Moses Olaiya and his Rhythm Dandies in 1963. After Olaiya transitioned into acting, Ade formed his own group, the Green Spots, in 1966, initially as a ten-man band. His lyrics often celebrated Nigerian federal victories, incorporated Yoruba proverbs, and praised local soccer clubs. Ade recorded albums with a label owned by businessman Bolarinwa Abioro until a split over financial disputes in 1972. He renamed his band the African Beats and established his own record label in 1974. By 1979, the band expanded to about twenty members, featuring synthesizers and dancers. Ade's music gained international exposure, with tours across Europe and the United States from the mid-1980s through the early 2000s.
