**Bio: King Tubby** Born on January 28, 1941, in Kingston, Jamaica, King Tubby is celebrated for his significant influence on the development of dub music in the 1960s. With a diploma in electronics, he opened a small repair shop in his family's backyard and later established Tubby's Home Town Hi Fi in Waterhouse in 1958, quickly earning the title of "King" and becoming one of the island's top sound systems by the end of the 1960s. In 1968, Tubby began collaborating with various artists and started making remixes of popular songs, primarily by removing vocals. His innovative approach led to a shift in focus towards instrumentals, incorporating effects like echoes and filtering. By 1968, his sound system had gained immense popularity in Kingston, although it was destroyed by police in 1975. In 1971, he opened his own studio, gradually equipping it with second-hand gear, which allowed him to produce numerous dub plates. His remixes became widely popular, solidifying his status as a celebrity in Jamaica. Throughout the 1970s, Tubby's studio work contributed to the evolution of modern dub music. He produced and engineered for many of Jamaica's top artists and created a long string of hit songs.
