Kiyoaki Iwamoto emerged as a distinctive voice in Tokyo's post-punk scene during the late 1970s and early 1980s. As a member of the duo Birei and a founding member of Guys & Dolls alongside Tori Kudo, he crafted minimalist compositions characterized by stripped-down instrumentation and poignant lyricism. His 1982 release, "Sougi," features five tracks, including a haunting reinterpretation of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." This rare 7" record was reissued in 2020 as "Sougi+," accompanied by previously unreleased material. In the mid-1980s, Iwamoto withdrew from the public eye, disavowing his name and later performing under a different moniker, leaving behind a legacy of enigmatic and emotionally resonant music.
