Kiyoshi Yamaya was a Japanese jazz composer and band leader born in Tokyo on March 29, 1932. He began his music career in 1953 by joining Tetsurou Takahama And Eskyer Cats, Hiromichi Yamamoto And Champagne Serenade, and Yasuoki Nabeshima And Rhythm Mates. That same year, he formed his band Fine Dandies, which he renamed to Four Acen in 1955. After the band broke up, he worked as a baritone saxophone player at The Sharps and Flats from 1957 to 1960. Following his time with the band, he composed and arranged music for various big bands, including The Sharps and Flats. In April 1959, he established the "Modern Jazz Three Association" with Norio Maeda and Keitaro Miho, which played a significant role in advancing Japanese jazz composition and arrangement. In the summer of 1965, he led the Tokyo Union for about a year and received the Arrangement Award at the Japan Record Awards in the same year. Kiyoshi Yamaya passed away on July 9, 2002.
