Klaatu is a Canadian progressive rock group formed in 1973 by a duo. They took their name from the extraterrestrial character portrayed by Michael Rennie in the film "The Day the Earth Stood Still." The band initially released the singles "Anus Of Uranus / Sub-Rosa Subway" and "Dr. Marvello / For You Girl" before coming under the guidance of Frank Davies and his company. Drummer was signed shortly after, leading to the release of the singles "California Jam" and "True Life Hero." Despite their efforts, the band struggled to gain radio recognition. In 1975, Davies, along with producer Terry Brown, successfully secured a deal for the band with a label in the US and worldwide.
