Klaus Schulze was a German electronic music pioneer, composer, and musician born on August 4, 1947, in Berlin. He passed away on April 26, 2022, at the age of 74, following a long illness. Schulze initially gained recognition as a drummer, performing with the group Psy Free and later with Tangerine Dream, contributing to their first album, "Electronic Meditation," before departing. He also played with Ash Ra Tempel alongside Manuel Göttsching. In 1971, Schulze embarked on a solo career as an electronic musician, releasing experimental albums such as "Irrlicht" and "Cyborg." His 1973 album "Cyborg" marked his first use of a synthesizer, specifically the VCS 3. Throughout the 1970s, he released notable albums like "Moondawn," "Mirage," and "X," and toured extensively, with many performances documented in live albums. In 1978, he established his own label and the following year launched a pseudonym/project. During the 1980s, Schulze maintained a prolific release schedule, recorded several soundtracks, and transitioned to digital recording in 1986. He sold Innovative Communication in the summer of 1983. In the 1990s, Schulze produced electronic interpretations of classical works, particularly those by Wagner, and collaborated with opera singers and classical musicians on his albums.
