Klaus Wiese was a German ambient musician born on January 18, 1942, in Ulm, Germany, where he passed away on January 27, 2009. A multiinstrumentalist, Wiese specialized in ambient, meditative, and healing acoustic music. He played various instruments, including the zither, chimes, and Persian string instruments, and was particularly skilled with Tibetan "singing" bowls, often incorporating vocals into his work. Wiese is regarded by some as one of the great ambient or space music artists, alongside others in the genre. In the early 1970s, he was briefly a member of a band, where he played tamboura on their third and fourth albums, Hosianna Mantra and Seligpreisung, after they transitioned from Krautrock to ambient, acoustic, and sacral music, utilizing piano, electric guitar, ancient Asian instruments, and large choirs.
